About ClinicCases
The idea for this software came from the Loyola Law Clinic's experiences with Hurricane Katrina in 2005. As the storm approached New Orleans, our clinic faculty, staff, and students evacuated along with everybody else in the city. Within a matter of weeks, Loyola College of Law found a new temporary home at the University of Houston in Texas. Because New Orleans was still shut down, however, we could not access any of our case files. More importantly, our previous case management system only ran on the law school network and could not be accessed via the internet.
As a result of this experience, the Clinic faculty resolved to move to a web-based case management system. After reviewing the limited offerings available at the time, we decided that I would write a new, customized system. The result, ClinicCases, was first introduced at the AALS Clinical Conference in Tucson, Arizona in 2007 in the presentation Supervising in Your Pajamas. The second beta version was released under the open source GPL license later the same year. It was beta-tested by a number of - very patient - clinical professors and students for the next three years.
ClinicCases is under constant development and new features are regularly implemented. As the internet grows and matures, I hope that ClinicCases will become even more useful to us in our clinical practices.
